National Crime Victims’ Rights Week begins April 10, and the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Victim Assistance Unit will host a full day of events Thursday.
The Aupuni Center hosts the Clothesline Project from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The Clothesline Project was founded in 1990 as a means for those who have been victims of domestic violence to offer testimony by displaying T-shirts decorated with messages representing their experiences. A domestic violence victims’ quilt will also be on display.
A celebration of the newly created Memorial Peace Garden at the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney’s building, 655 Kilauea Ave., takes place at noon.
From 2-4 p.m. in conference rooms A and B of the building, the Surviving to Thriving with Advocacy, Resources and Support, or STARS, Homicide Victims group will create a quilt in remembrance of their loved ones. Materials will be available for family and friends to make panels.
The monthly STARS support group meeting begins at 4 p.m. in Conference Room A.
A goods drive takes place throughout the week that will benefit victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Donations will be accepted at the prosecutor’s office.
Donation items include: antibacterial hand sanitizer, toilet paper, tissue, feminine hygiene products, diapers and wipes, cleaning supplies (bleach, cleaning wipes, laundry detergent), new toiletries (soap, body wash, deodorant, lotions, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner), new or gently used full or twin sheet sets, new or gently used kitchen supplies. Clothing items will not be accepted.
